PSA Testing: Advanced Diagnostics for Prostate Health

At AvoVita, we empower you to take a proactive approach to your long-term wellness through precision diagnostics. The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test is a vital tool used to measure the levels of a specific protein produced by the prostate gland. While it is normal for small amounts of PSA to circulate in the blood, elevated levels can serve as an early warning sign for various conditions, including inflammation (prostatitis), benign enlargement (BPH), or prostate cancer.

Our diagnostic suite is meticulously designed for Calgary residents who demand clinical accuracy and total confidentiality. By partnering directly with Mayo Clinic Laboratories, we bring world-class testing technology to your doorstep, ensuring your results are processed with the same rigor found in major medical centers. Whether you are conducting routine health maintenance, seeking clarity for peace of mind, or requiring documentation for personal health records, our process is built to eliminate the stress and administrative hurdles typically associated with medical testing.

The Importance of Regular PSA Testing: Statistics & Clinical Insights

Prostate cancer remains one of the most significant health considerations for men. In Canada, it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among males, accounting for approximately 23% of all new cancer cases in men annually. It is estimated that one in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.

Early Detection and Survival Outcomes

The primary goal of regular PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) testing is early detection—identifying the presence of potential issues before they advance to a symptomatic or late-stage state. The clinical data regarding early intervention is compelling:

  • Stage I-III Detection: For individuals whose prostate cancer is diagnosed at one of the first three stages (localized or regional), the five-year net survival rate consistently approaches 100%.
  • Late-Stage (Stage IV) Prognosis: If the cancer is not detected until Stage IV (metastatic), the five-year survival rate declines significantly to approximately 41%.

By maintaining a regular screening schedule, you create a baseline for your PSA levels, allowing for the detection of "PSA velocity"—the rate at which your levels change over time—which can be a more sensitive indicator of health than a single isolated result.

Reducing Mortality Through Proactive Screening

Long-term clinical studies have demonstrated that organized PSA screening significantly impacts long-term health outcomes. A landmark European study followed participants for over 20 years and found that men offered regular PSA screening were 13% to 21% less likely to die from prostate cancer than those who were not screened. In some focused populations, the relative risk reduction in mortality has been observed as high as 42% over 18 years of follow-up.

Taking Command of Your Health Profile

At AvoVita, we believe that waiting for symptoms to manifest is a reactive approach to medicine that limits your options. True health optimization requires a proactive strategy where you are the primary stakeholder in your own diagnostic data. By establishing a regular screening cadence for markers like PSA, you move beyond "one-off" testing and begin to build a comprehensive longitudinal health profile. This allows you and your physician to monitor trends, identify subtle shifts in your baseline, and make informed decisions based on clinical evidence rather than guesswork.

In a traditional healthcare landscape often characterized by administrative bottlenecks and restrictive screening criteria, we offer a streamlined alternative. Our service is designed for the individual who demands high-fidelity data on their own timeline, providing the tools necessary to navigate your wellness journey with precision and confidence.

A Commitment to Total Privacy & Independence

We recognize that health diagnostics, particularly those concerning prostate health, are deeply personal. To ensure your absolute discretion, AvoVita operates as a strictly independent private diagnostic provider. We are not affiliated with public health authorities, and we do not participate in government-run public health reporting or provincial database tracking.

Your diagnostic journey remains entirely confidential, existing solely between you, our clinical network, and the private healthcare professionals you choose to involve. This independence ensures that you retain exclusive ownership of your health information. By bypassing the bureaucracy of the public system, you gain the freedom to secure clinical-grade insights from Mayo Clinic Laboratories while maintaining the highest level of personal privacy and data security.

Everything You Need to Know About Private Blood Testing

No we are not connected with provincial health or any other organizations, this is 100% private testing. No requisition is needed (with the exception of cancer screening and prenatal genetic tests), you pay for the tests you want and the PDF results are securely emailed to you. You can download them and do with them as you please.

Different tests have different turnaround times, and we generally tell people to expect a result window of 3-10 days, depending on when your blood draw is completed. We ship specimens on Wednesdays, and so a blood draw on a Tuesday would result much faster than a blood draw on a Thursday which would have to wait 6 days before shipping.

No we are 100% private, anyone can access our tests you do not require provincial health coverage or even Canadian citizenship.

Our third party home services provider is familiar with and comfortable with collections on children. We leave it to the discretion of the parent, and our third party provider if a draw on a child will be acceptable.

Each test has its own price, which can be found by clicking the book now link on our site. We do not offer multi test discounts, the price of each test remains the same regardless of the number of test purchased. You can pick and choose whichever tests you like to meet your needs.
