No, for more than 440 of our 445 tests. Five require a physician requisition present at collection: FRAT, EPISEEK, and the three Dynacare prenatal screens (Harmony, MaterniT Genome and MaterniT 21 PLUS). Everything else you can order directly.

Test prices start at $105. On top of that there is one collection fee per appointment: $85 for one person within Calgary, plus $55 for each additional person at the same appointment, plus $50 for Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks or Chestermere.

The collection fee is charged once per appointment, not per test. Order three tests and you pay for three tests and one visit.

Anywhere in Calgary, plus Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and Chestermere with a $50 extended-range fee. Your home, your office, a hotel, or a friend or family member's place all work — it does not need to be your own address.

Everyone in one order must be at the same address at the same appointment.

Yes. A second person at the same address and appointment is $55 rather than a second $85 visit fee. Each person's tests are assigned, billed and reported separately, so you each get your own results.

We collect name, date of birth and biological sex for each person, because the laboratory requires them on the requisition and reference ranges depend on them.

Some tests require fasting and some do not. Where fasting is needed it is stated on the test in the catalogue, and it is usually 8 to 12 hours. If you are unsure, ask the assistant on any page or call us before your appointment.

Turnaround is shown on every test in the catalogue. Most return within a week of shipping. Some specialist tests take considerably longer — ReligenDx asks for up to 70 days for the FRAT test, and EPISEEK allows 30 days.

A few tests have short specimen stability and must reach the laboratory within a narrow window, so they have to be collected on a morning that ships the same day. The metabolic panels and Complete Blood Count are the common examples.

Where it applies, it is stated on the test and you will be asked to acknowledge it before ordering. Every other test can be booked on any available day.

Clients have successfully submitted AvoVita invoices to private benefits plans and health spending accounts, but acceptance depends entirely on your plan and cannot be guaranteed. We do not bill any insurer directly, and testing is not covered by Alberta Health Services.

FloLabs phlebotomists collect from 7:00am to 4:00pm, seven days a week. Phone enquiries are answered directly, and we try to respond to emails by the next business day.

AvoVita arranges testing and delivers results. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or interpret your results for you, and we recommend reviewing them with a healthcare provider of your choice.
