PrecivityAD2™: The Breakthrough Alzheimer’s Blood Test
Considering Early Alzheimer's Screening? Learn About the PrecivityAD2 Test at AvoVita Wellness
At AvoVita Wellness in Calgary, we understand the importance of proactive brain health. For individuals aged 55 and older experiencing mild cognitive changes or undergoing evaluation for memory concerns, the PrecivityAD2 blood test offers a less invasive way to assess the likelihood of amyloid plaques in the brain – a key indicator associated with Alzheimer's disease.
The PrecivityAD2 test analyzes specific proteins in your blood to generate an Amyloid Probability Score 2 (APS2). This score helps your healthcare provider understand the potential for amyloid pathology, offering valuable information alongside cognitive assessments and neurological evaluations. With a high degree of accuracy compared to more invasive methods, PrecivityAD2 can be a helpful tool in the early stages of investigation.
Facilitated here at AvoVita Wellness, this simple blood draw can provide important insights. If the test indicates a higher likelihood of amyloid, further evaluation, potentially including APOE E4 genetic testing, may be recommended. Our team will guide you through the process, ensuring you understand the test, its potential benefits, and the next steps in your cognitive health journey.
Please note: The PrecivityAD2 test is not a standalone diagnosis for Alzheimer's but an informative tool to aid in the evaluation process. Discuss your concerns with your physician to determine if this test is right for you. Contact AvoVita Wellness in Calgary to learn more about accessing the PrecivityAD2 test and how it can be part of your proactive approach to cognitive wellness.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that remains the most common cause of dementia worldwide. It is characterized by the accumulation of specific proteins in the brain—namely beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles—which disrupt communication between neurons and lead to the gradual loss of cognitive function, memory, and behavioral stability.
Prevalence: It is estimated that millions of individuals are currently living with Alzheimer's disease. As the global population ages, this number is projected to rise significantly, making early detection a critical priority for public health.
The Diagnostic Gap: Historically, identifying Alzheimer’s pathology was difficult, often relying on subjective cognitive assessments or expensive, invasive procedures like PET scans and lumbar punctures (CSF analysis). These traditional methods are not always accessible, leading to long delays in diagnosis.
The Role of Biomarkers: Modern clinical science has shifted toward identifying "biomarkers"—biological indicators in the blood that correspond to the brain pathology of Alzheimer’s. Biomarkers like the ratio of amyloid beta 42/40 and phosphorylated tau (p-tau217) are now providing clinicians with objective data to assess brain health before significant clinical symptoms become irreversible.
Education is your first line of defense. Understanding that Alzheimer’s begins in the brain years, or even decades, before the onset of noticeable memory loss is essential. By normalizing proactive screening for individuals over 50—particularly those with a family history or subjective cognitive concerns—we can move from a reactive "wait-and-see" approach to a model of managed, informed brain health.
At AvoVita, we believe that waiting for noticeable decline is no longer the standard of care. By providing access to advanced blood-based diagnostic tools like PrecivityAD2™, we are helping Calgary residents bypass the traditional diagnostic bottlenecks.
Whether you are seeking answers for yourself or a loved one, having access to accurate, laboratory-verified data allows you to have more productive conversations with your neurologist or primary care physician. Knowledge is the most effective tool for planning, early intervention, and maintaining your quality of life.
No we are not connected with provincial health or any other organizations, this is 100% private testing. No requisition is needed (with the exception of cancer screening and prenatal genetic tests), you pay for the tests you want and the PDF results are securely emailed to you. You can download them and do with them as you please.
Different tests have different turnaround times, and we generally tell people to expect a result window of 3-10 days, depending on when your blood draw is completed. We ship specimens on Wednesdays, and so a blood draw on a Tuesday would result much faster than a blood draw on a Thursday which would have to wait 6 days before shipping.
