B12 & Folate Testing: Powering Your Cellular and Neurological Vitality

At AvoVita, we empower you to take a proactive approach to your neurological health and cellular energy. Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) and Folate (Vitamin B9) are indispensable partners in your body’s most critical biological processes. Together, they act as the primary engines for DNA synthesis, the formation of healthy red blood cells, and the maintenance of the myelin sheath—the protective coating that ensures rapid nerve signal transmission throughout your brain and body.

Our diagnostic suite is designed for Calgary residents who demand precision and total confidentiality. By utilizing the advanced diagnostic protocols of Mayo Clinic Laboratories, we provide world-class insights into your nutritional status. Whether you are investigating persistent fatigue, managing a plant-based diet, or optimizing cognitive function as you age, AvoVita puts high-fidelity data directly into your hands, bypassing the wait times of the traditional system.

Understanding the Synergy: B12 & Folate Utility

Understanding the Synergy: B12 & Folate Utility

Vitamin B12 and Folate work in a "lock-and-key" relationship to regulate homocysteine levels and produce S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a compound vital for mood and neurotransmitter function. Because a deficiency in either can lead to identical symptoms—such as megaloblastic anemia—testing them together is the only clinical standard for identifying the true root cause of your symptoms.

Clinical Applications and Symptom Correlation

Monitoring your B12 and Folate levels is essential for identifying the root cause of systemic fatigue and neurological shifts. By securing objective data, you can move toward a targeted strategy for several key health milestones:

  • Neurological & Cognitive Integrity: B12 and Folate are critical for brain health. Low levels are frequently linked to "brain fog," memory lapses, and peripheral neuropathy—characterized by tingling or numbness in the hands and feet.
  • Red Blood Cell Production: Both vitamins are required for the maturation of red blood cells. A deficiency in either can lead to megaloblastic anemia, where cells become abnormally large and inefficient at carrying oxygen, resulting in profound, persistent fatigue.
  • Cardiovascular Health & Homocysteine: Without adequate B12 and Folate, homocysteine levels can rise, which is a known inflammatory marker and risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
  • Prenatal & Reproductive Health: Folate is essential during pre-conception and early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. Regular testing ensures that dietary and supplemental intake is meeting the body’s elevated demands.
  • Dietary & Absorption Monitoring: Factors such as aging, plant-based diets, or digestive conditions like Celiac and Crohn’s disease can inhibit the absorption of these nutrients. Testing confirms if your body is successfully utilizing the vitamins from your diet.

Taking Command of Your Health Profile

At AvoVita, we believe that waiting for "exhaustion" or nerve pain to set in is a reactive approach to wellness. True vitality requires a proactive model where you are the primary stakeholder in your own diagnostic data. By establishing a B12 and Folate baseline, you gain the ability to monitor your nutritional "reserves" and make data-driven decisions about your diet and supplementation before cellular damage occurs.

In a traditional healthcare landscape where vitamin testing is often deprioritized, we offer a streamlined alternative. Our service is designed for the individual who demands clinical-grade insights on their own timeline, ensuring your journey toward optimal health is supported by the world’s most trusted diagnostic standards.

A Commitment to Total Privacy & Independence

We recognize that your nutritional and metabolic data is a private matter. To ensure your absolute discretion, AvoVita operates as a strictly independent private diagnostic provider. We are not affiliated with public health authorities, and we do not participate in government-run provincial database tracking or public health reporting.

Your diagnostic journey remains 100% confidential, existing solely between you and our clinical network. This independence ensures that you retain exclusive ownership of your health information. By bypassing the bureaucracy of the public system, you gain the freedom to secure world-class insights from Mayo Clinic Laboratories while maintaining the highest level of personal privacy and data autonomy.

The Hidden Dangers of Aluminum Toxicity: Sources, Health Impacts, and Solutions

Modern life comes with its conveniences, but it also introduces our bodies to a range of harmful substances, including heavy metals like aluminum. Aluminum is one of the most common metals on Earth and is widely used in various products. While exposure in small amounts may not seem harmful, consistent exposure from multiple sources can lead to aluminum toxicity, with significant impacts on health.

Everything You Need to Know About Private Blood Testing

No we are not connected with provincial health or any other organizations, this is 100% private testing. No requisition is needed (with the exception of cancer screening and prenatal genetic tests), you pay for the tests you want and the PDF results are securely emailed to you. You can download them and do with them as you please.

Different tests have different turnaround times, and we generally tell people to expect a result window of 3-10 days, depending on when your blood draw is completed. We ship specimens on Wednesdays, and so a blood draw on a Tuesday would result much faster than a blood draw on a Thursday which would have to wait 6 days before shipping.

No we are 100% private, anyone can access our tests you do not require provincial health coverage or even Canadian citizenship.

Our third party home services provider is familiar with and comfortable with collections on children. We leave it to the discretion of the parent, and our third party provider if a draw on a child will be acceptable.

Each test has its own price, which can be found by clicking the book now link on our site. We do not offer multi test discounts, the price of each test remains the same regardless of the number of test purchased. You can pick and choose whichever tests you like to meet your needs.
